2. Black-footed Albatross P. nigripes, c.85 miles west of San Francisco, California, USA, October 14, 2000.  A more scruffy-looking individual with extensive white mottling on the head and neck.

3. Black-footed Albatross P. nigripes, c.85 miles west of San Francisco, California, USA, October 14, 2000. This individual has very little white on the vent and undertail coverts and is likely a young bird.  Compare with the bird in the next image below.

4. Black-footed Albatross P. nigripes, Monterey Bay, California, USA, September 8, 2002.  This bird is extensively white on the head, vent and undertail coverts and is presumably an older individual.
