1. Eurasian Wigeon Anas penelope x American Wigeon A. americana hybrid, male, Arrowhead Marsh, Alameda County, California, USA, January 25, 2004. Note the dull coppery tone to the head (in contrast to the brighter red of a pure Eurasian Wigeon), the pale speckled area below the eye extending back over the ear coverts, the long pale crown stripe and the brownish tone to the scapulars - all features recalling American Wigeon. The flanks are a mixture of gray and pink.
