1. Greater White-fronted Goose Anser albifrons, Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge, Glenn County, California, U.S.A., January 31, 2004. I would be very interested to hear opinions as to the racial identity of these birds (send comments here). In Central California in winter, the most likely subspecies of A. albifrons is presumably frontalis, but note that the birds in these photos look dark and tend to show a yellow orbital ring, which are features of elgasi ("Tule Goose").
